Research Awards Call for Nominations


The CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education are requesting nominations for the 2021 Faculty Research Awards and the William E. Krauss Award for excellence in graduate education.

The CFAES Faculty Research Awards recognize CFAES and OARDC scientists who have made outstanding research contributions in the advancement of science and technologies relating to food, agriculture, family, communities and/or the environment.

The William E. Krauss Award was established through a gift from the William E. Krauss family to recognize excellence in research performed by a doctoral student. This award recognizes a Ph.D. student that has produced a peer reviewed publication of the highest quality.

Junior Faculty Research Award

This award is for faculty whose appointment is at the rank of Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor. The award will consist of a plaque and a $1,000 cash prize to the awardee, and a one- time allocation of $3,000 to the operating expense account of the awardee’s research project.

Senior Faculty Research Award

This award is for faculty whose appointment is at the rank of Professor. The award will consist of a plaque and $1,000 cash prize to the awardee, and a one-time allocation of $3,000 to the operating expense account of the awardee’s research project.

Innovator of the Year Award

This award recognizes scientists who have created innovations that have or will have a major impact on agricultural production, business, rural communities, technology, or the health and well-being of animals and human beings. One award will be given each year to an individual or team. The award consists of a plaque and a $1,000 cash prize to each team member (not to exceed $5,000 for the team), and $2,500 to an operating expense account of the awardee for one year only, (not to exceed $5,000 total across all team members in the case of a team award).

William E. Krauss Director’s Award for excellence in graduate research

The competition is open to all Ph.D. students who have worked on or are working on a CFAES affiliated project during the 2020 calendar year.

Submission Information

Please note the updated guidelines for the Faculty and Innovator awards. Completed nomination packets should be submitted as one PDF to Lori Kaser at kaser.37@osu.edu. The deadline for receipt of nominations is 5:00 pm December 17, 2020. The Awards Review Committee will review the nominations and select the awardees. The target date for announcement of the awards is February 1, 2021. All awards will be presented at the Annual CFAES Research Conference, date TBD. Note: each awardee will be expected to give a 10-minute synopsis of the primary research that led to the award at the Research Conference.
