    Join us to learn more about the nitty gritty of interdisciplinary collaborations. This series of discussions is based on the experiences of teams of researchers working on an NSF-Advancing Informal STEM Learning Project: Convergent Learning from Divergent Perspectives. In the second panel discussion, researchers who have participated in an interdisciplinary team will discuss how they have built a high-functioning team, the process of finding an advisory team from outside the university and negotiating potentially contentious topics of publications and communication.

    In this 1.5 hour session geared toward staff,  The Office of Research Compliance staff will introduce their office and the compliance issues for which they are responsible (conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, research misconduct, responsible conduct of research, foreign influence). Ethics issues will also be covered.

    Over the last few years, federal funding agencies, as well as Congress, have shown increasing concern about the impact of foreign government activities on the U.S. research enterprise. There have been a number of well publicized investigations of individuals concerning their failure to disclose foreign activities or support (generically referred to as ‘Foreign Influence’).

    Learn "the moves that matter in academic writing" with the They Say, I Say method. "'They Say, I Say' identifies the key rhetorical moves in academic writing, showing students how to frame their arguments in the larger context of what others have said and providing templates to help them make those moves."

    Kate Hayes-Ozello from Ohio State’s Proposal Development Office will outline best practices used to support the development of large grant proposals. This will include: reviewing the RFP in-depth; developing an outline of all required components and making sure responsibility for each piece and part is assigned to someone; negotiating a proposal development schedule that everyone can live with; getting the team on the same page and keeping them there; and planning for mock reviews and/or feedback on the proposal draft prior to submission.
